YITPI, Fun with Feelings
(heart, soul, will, inclination, seed)
This video forms part of an innovative 3 part resource kit which contained four booklets, Feeling Happy, Feeling Sad, Feeling Scared and Feeling Angry (to be used directly with children between 5 – 8 years) plus a workbook for teachers and group facilitators. The booklets were produced in 4 languages – Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri and Pitjantjatjara. The Aboriginal words used are not meant to be text book/dictionary perfect versions of the three Aboriginal language groups. They are not meant to teach language but give access to some common colloquial Indigenous words used.
The project was initiated by Port Youth Theatre’s Aboriginal Advisory Group in 1997 who had a desire to bring awareness of conflict resolution skills to the young members of their communities, through a creative process. The group believe that one of the most effective ways of stopping the patterns of violence in families and in school is to work with the younger generation.
